When I began blogging, I sort of jokingly dubbed myself “The Tea Lady,” just as others dub themselves or are dubbed by others such things as “The Nail Care Lady” or “The Avon Lady.” In neither case does anyone think that this one particular lady is the one and only nail care or Avon lady. For some reason, though, some people thought I was declaring myself to be the one and only lady devoted to tea. Not so at all. Tea ladies abound!
Some Tea Ladies I have come across online
- TheTeaLady.com — The website for Elaine’s Tea Shoppe in Toledo, Ohio, that carries neat teawares and also serves up fine loose leaf teas.
- Tea Lady — A “…family-owned business established in 1994 in Olympia, Washington, …specializing in tea and everything for tea. …over 700 teas and herbal infusions. …candies and cookies including some gluten-free items, sugars, honeys, and British teas, beverages and biscuits …lots of variety in teapots, water kettles, cups, travel mugs and sipping cups, infusers, tea cozies.” (photo posted on Twitter by @nwteafestival)
- The Tea Lady — A tea lover who gives tea parties. Her motto: “The Tea Lady… A Princess with a Purpose!” (Yes, the species Teaprincessica normalis is alive and well!) She not only holds parties but uses them as learning experiences, teaches proper etiquette for such social occasions.
- Tea Lady — Actually, they seem to carry only herbals, no true tea (made from Camellia Sinensis leaves).
- Judy Larkin – The Tea Lady — A lady passionate about tea. She says, “Tea is my passion. Let me share my knowledge with you through presentations, tea tastings or cooking classes. Browse my site for recipes or facts about tea. Tea is universal, a worldwide tradition that crosses all barriers. Come and savor a world of educational, enjoyable experiences. As a tea educator – I’ll give you a passport to the world of tea. Discover that there’s much more to tea than cucumber sandwiches and scones. Check out our offerings of the world’s finest loose teas.” Wonderful!
- Tea Lady character in movie — Having never seen the movie this character was in, I can only guess at what she was about.
- The Tea Lady — A tearoom in Auckland, New Zealand. They actually call it the “Refreshment Room” and serve true Devonshire Teas (tea, scones, clotted cream, jam) and a large selection of specialty teas. Makes me want to hop on a plane right now!
- The Lady Tasting Tea — A book (possibly one mentioned previously on this blog by intrepid reporter of all things tea Bill Lengeman) that presents an “…insightful, revealing history of the magical mathematics that transformed our world.” It “salutes the spirit of those who dared to look at the world in a new way.” So, not so much about tea per se.
- Tea Lady blog — She says she’s “an undergraduate Psychology student in my second year at Middlesex University, North London. I live in Notingham [sic] and commute to University, using the journeys as an excuse to read a good book. I love live music and festivals, reading and much more.”
- Tea Lady designer — This is “a creative design company set up in 1998, with the general philosophy of trying to make everything as pretty, sharp and lovely as possible while enjoying the creative process along the way. … primarily Lee Binding, as well as a couple of talented individuals specialising in design and illustration.”
- The Chair Man and the Tea Lady — Founded in 1993 in Abington, Massachusetts. The Chair Man (Jeffrey Grossman) does re-caning, rushing, splinting of all natural fiber seats and tightening and repairing wood pieces. The Tea Lady (Linda Grossman) specializes in teacups, teapots, tea bag holder sets, colored glassware, and other special pieces of porcelain and china.
Tea Ladies on Twitter:
- @Tea_Coach — The other day on Twitter I came across a “tweep” whose Twitter persona was “Tea Lady” and Twittername was “@Tea_Coach.” Hm…could this be the one and only and true Tea Lady? The description of this person (who may or may not be female) was: “Distilling the essence of tea and healthy Chinese eating.”
- @Hayley_TeaLady — This is another tweep whose display name is Call Centre Hayley. Her description: “#TEALADY #CALLCENTRE# CRAZY #DITTZY# SICK #LIKE #PARTY #SMILE #DIFFEREN T#LOUD #FUN For all media & bookings.”
- @Tealady_Tine — Christine Toth in Trenton, Ontario. She sells tea through a franchise business and loves learning more and sharing that knowledge about tea with others.
- @RadhikasTeas — She posted a “tea lady” statue photo recently. The “lady” was bearing a tea gift of fine tea from Yunnan gardens.
Dozens more. Yes, we tea ladies are in true abundance! And I’m glad to be in such good company!
